Membership Structure

Membership Councils

BLDG Memphis membership is organized through three councils. Each council gives members a clear way to participate based on who they are and how they connect to community development.

Voting Member

Community Development Council

For CDCs, CDOs, and nonprofit community development organizations.

The Community Development Council is for eligible nonprofit organizations that are principally or substantially engaged in equitable community development activities, programming, or services. This council represents the core CDC and CDO voice within the BLDG Memphis network.

Best Fit For

Community Development Corporations, Community Development Organizations, nonprofit developers, neighborhood-based nonprofits, and nonprofit organizations actively engaged in community development.

Members Receive Access To

New City Builders programming, including the CAT, organizational workplans where eligible, The Institute, technical assistance pathways, Peer-to-Peer Learning, and Community Development Policy Coalition participation. Policy briefings, member listening sessions, advocacy updates, CDC/CDO roundtables, peer groups, working groups, and visibility opportunities.
Annual Dues: $250

Supporting Member

Affiliate Council

For partners, institutions, funders, lenders, businesses, and civic allies.

The Affiliate Council is for organizations and institutions that support BLDG Memphis’ mission and want to participate in the broader community development ecosystem. Affiliate Council members help strengthen the network through partnership, resource alignment, learning, and support for the organizations and neighborhood leaders advancing community development.

Funders, lenders, public agencies, universities, businesses, consultants, technical assistance providers, civic organizations, developers, institutions, and aligned nonprofit partners.

Members Receive Access To

Selected learning sessions, partner briefings, public convenings, issue education, Peer-to-Peer Learning opportunities, partner roundtables, network-building opportunities, and visibility as an aligned partner in the BLDG Memphis network.

Supporting Member

Neighborhood Council

For residents, neighborhood associations, block clubs, and grassroots groups.

The Neighborhood Council is for neighborhood associations, block clubs, resident groups, tenant groups, grassroots neighborhood groups, individual residents, and emerging civic groups that want to stay connected to community development work in Memphis. This council helps ensure that resident voice, lived experience, and neighborhood priorities remain visible in BLDG Memphis’ work.

Community Development Council members are BLDG Memphis’ voting members. Affiliate Council and Neighborhood Council members participate as supporting members, helping strengthen the broader network through partnership, learning, resident voice, and community development engagement.

BLDG Memphis is a capacity builder, convener, policy advocate, and ecosystem organizer. Membership does not replace the professional services of grant writers, developers, consultants, attorneys, architects, or financial advisors. BLDG Memphis helps members strengthen the tools, knowledge, partnerships, and readiness needed to participate more effectively in community development work.

Cohort-based training for community development organizations and leaders.

The CAT

A Capacity Assessment Tool that helps members understand strengths, gaps, readiness, and next steps.

Policy Coalition

A member-driven space to shape policy priorities and connect neighborhood experience to public decision-making.

Customized Workplans & TA

A pathway for eligible members to receive support connected to their organization's needs and goals.

Peer-to-Peer Learning

Citywide Engagement

BLDG Memphis FORWARD

A citywide engagement initiative for stronger Memphis neighborhoods. BLDG Memphis FORWARD invites residents, neighborhood leaders, member organizations, civic partners, and community development supporters to take part in the shared work of strengthening Memphis neighborhoods.

The initiative creates opportunities to learn, connect, advocate, and act alongside others who care about housing, neighborhood investment, resident voice, and equitable community development.
